Grab an Apple!
Naturally sweet, refreshingly crisp, and endlessly versatile—British apples are the ultimate healthy snack. They’re packed with fibre, vitamin C, and flavour, and available in loads of delicious varieties to keep things interesting.
On this page, we’ll show you how to pick, prep, and store apples—plus fun, quick snack ideas the kids will actually eat.
How to Shop, Store & Prep Apples
Shopping
Look for firm fruit with smooth, unbroken skin. British apples are freshest in autumn, but many varieties are available most of the year.
Storage
Keep them in the fridge in the fruit drawer to help them last 2–4 weeks. You can also store them in a cool cupboard or fruit bowl for 5–7 days.

Too soft to slice?
Don’t bin them! Turn them into a quick applesauce (just peel, core, chop and cook in a pan with a little water then mash or blitz smooth) or slice and roast them with cinnamon.
Get kids involved
Let little ones rinse apples, dry them, or help arrange apples on a plate (they could even make fun “faces” with raisins and/or seeds).
Did you know?
You can freeze apples! You won’t be able to eat as is, but they are perfect for blitzing or cooking. Simply slice, sprinkle with lemon juice, and freeze flat in a bag—great for smoothies, applesauce or crumbles later.
